Unfinished

If I went searching for a new love

Then I couldn’t have chosen a more

Drastically different mate than him

Without you, none of the basics are the same.

He is good to me and for me; respects me and loves me but

His lips don’t taste like yours

Smile isn’t quite as sweet

Body doesn’t smell like you

When he walks toward me not as many woman turn

To

Admire him

And every time he touches me I wait for the heat that

Always accompanied your strokes

The laugh I know as well as my own

Won’t be heard coming from his throat

His frame doesn’t loom as largely over mine

So while I focus on the differences between old and new love

I wouldn’t turn back to those times for anything because

I’m grateful for what I experienced with you

It gave me the confidence to try again

And the ability to fully accept love
