Lyricism

In so many ways,

I’m that old JayZ lyric

I got no passion/I got no patience

And I hate waiting

In other ways,

I’m In a Sentimental Mood

Like Duke and Coltrane, a rare classic

Mellow and fluid

But no matter which way

you turn your head, that

complex composition always

Attracts attention

Speech to the Young Speech to the Progress-Toward- Gwendolyn Brooks

Say to them,
say to the down-keepers,
the sun-slappers,
the self-soilers,
the harmony-hushers,
“Even if you are not ready for day
it cannot always be night.”
You will be right.
For that is the hard home-run.
Live not for battles won.
Live not for the-end-of-the-song.
Live in the along.

Unplanned Housekeeping

“The writer is by nature a dreamer- a conscious dreamer.”

– Carson McCullers

I have been toying around with updating the theme of the blog. It hasn’t been a pressing matter since I like the look of the blog. So I put it off. But last week, I went through the blog and saw how dated my About Me page was. The information is so old! I mean really old! So now that the semester is over, I plan to look for another theme and to update some of the pages around the blog. As a writer, my attention is often on the words of the blog, not other things.

In the everyday minutiae of operating a blog, particularly one like this, the housekeeping involved in ensuring that the information is updated comes last. I am always planning my next post, reading and sharing new poems/poets, and thinking about literary things. It’s a shame that so many things have gone unnoticed for so long. All of this was sparked by an article about why it’s important to update your blog, in this case, they meant updating WordPress but it made me give this page a look.

Do any of you have a system for making sure that your information is up to date? Please share any tips!
