Second Chance

He made me feel like a 1990’s love song

When I first saw him

This is a lot for a woman who always expects

The worst because then I’ll never be disappointed

He was like the freshest breath I could ever inhale

So that second look became a four hour conversation over breakfast

Our second date developed into a

Heartfelt conversation about my dream (poetry) and his gift (his daughter)

Somehow we couldn’t bear to separate

When we did I found that I couldn’t wait to see him again

In that second look

I discovered that my future couldn’t

Be found in fortune cookies or my grandmother’s dreams but

That I could possibly find it with him
