Sunset

On August 19th, for the second time in ten months, I was speeding on a North Carolina highway to get to my family.
I’m a huge believer in signs, I get that from my grandmother and probably her mother but as I drove fighting not to have another breakdown a person on a motorcycle wearing blue and white pulled up behind me. Then he passed me and guided me the whole way to my exit.
He was a beacon leading me safely home.
A sign.
From the younger brother I’d just lost.

For a time, we had you
Your huge smiles, face full of joy and love
We had your dance moves, your master plans and rides through the woods
Your love of food and motorcycles
You gave us several lifetimes of entertainment
And your heart
You gave us all you had
And we’ll treasure you always
